Why do you need a CSCS Card?
CSCS cards allow you to work on UK construction sites. CSCS cards ensure people are appropriately qualified and aware of health & safety standers in the construction industry. This is a requirement in the construction industry, even to do SIA Security work you need to obtain a CSCS Labourer Card.
What qualifications do I need to get a CSCS Labourer card?
There is a two-stage process to obtain a CSCS Labourer card, stage one is to complete a Health & Safety for The Construction Industry Level 1 Course or equivalent once completed you will need to book in for a CSCS CITB Health, Safety & Environment touch screen test, after you have passed this test, you will be able to apply for a CSCS Labourer Card.
How much does it cost to get a CSCS Labourer card?
Obtaining a CSCS Labourer Card to work in the UK industry is a two-stage process:
Stage One:
Health & Safety for The Construction Industry Level 1 Course is £119.99
Stage Two:
CSCS CITB Health, Safety & Environment Touch screen test is £22.50
CSCS Labourer Card Fee: £36
Total Cost: (If completed with DS Education) £178.49*

You can book the CITB HS&E test via phone or online; To book online you need to visit:

To book by phone, you can call 0344 994 4488. Lines are open from 8am to 8pm (Monday to Friday), and from 8am to 12pm (Saturday). The line is closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays. The Welsh booking line is: 0344 994 4490

What happens if I fail my CSCS CITB test?
If you are not successful first time around, not to worry; you can book another test 24 hours after you have had your result. You cannot sit another test within 48 hours of your first test time. To rebook the CITB Health, Safety & Environment touch screen Test will cost £22.50.

How do you renew your CSCS Card?
To apply for CSCS cards, we advise using the online Construction Skills Certification Scheme service. *Remember the cost to renew your green, gold, blue or black CSCS card would total £55.50 (£36 for the card fee & £19.50 for the CITB Health Safety and Environment test).
When do you have to renew your CSCS Labourer Card?
CSCS Labourer cards are valid for 5 years. To renew your CSCS Labourer card you need to prove you have the appropriate training and qualifications required to carry out your job (such as Health & Safety for The Construction Industry Level 1). You also need to pass the CITB Health Safety and Environment test.
*Please remember CSCS cards can only be renewed 6 months prior to, and up to 6 months after, the expiry date printed on the card. After 5 years you must renew your CSCS Card.
Can I get CSCS card without doing a test?
To obtain a CSCS Card you need to have passed a CSCS test (a Health and Safety Environment touch screen test) and you need to have a National Vocational Qualification such as HS&E in The Construction Industry Level 1 Course (provided by DS Education) to your name that's relevant to your trade.
Is there any refresher / top up course when renewing the CSCS Labourer card?
When renewing your CSCS Green Card you are not required to do another course however at DS Education we offer a 6 Hour CITB revision class at £79.99 for anyone that needs that extra support to pass the CSCS CITB Health, Safety & Environment touch screen test – just give us a call or drop us a message and we can provide you with further information with dates.
What card do you need to work on a HS2 site?
To work on a HS2 Site you must have a minimum of CSCS Labourer Green Card.
Can you work on a HS2 Site with a JQA White Card?
Unfortunately you need a minimum of a CSCS Labourer Green Card to work on any HS2 Site.
